One of the most common questions we receive from both new and returning clients is: "How long will my lash extensions last?" The answer depends on several factors, but understanding the natural lash growth cycle is the best place to start.

Your natural lashes go through a continuous growth cycle consisting of three phases: the anagen (growth) phase, the catagen (transition) phase, and the telogen (resting/shedding) phase. This entire cycle lasts anywhere from 60 to 90 days. Since lash extensions are bonded to your individual natural lashes, they will shed naturally along with your natural lash.

On average, most people lose between 1 to 5 natural lashes per day. This means that even with perfect application and care, you will naturally see some thinning of your extensions over time.

Typical Duration and When to Get Fills

A full set of lash extensions typically lasts 4 to 6 weeks before a fill is needed. However, most clients prefer to come in for a fill every 2 to 3 weeks to maintain a consistently full and polished look. During a fill appointment, we replace the lashes that have naturally shed and tidy up any that have grown out of alignment.

The specific longevity of your extensions can vary based on your natural lash cycle, lifestyle, aftercare routine, and the type of extensions you have. Classic lashes tend to show gaps sooner as each extension is applied to a single lash, while volume fans can mask natural shedding better due to the fuller, fluffier look they create.

Tips to Maximize Your Lash Extension Lifespan

While you cannot stop the natural shedding process, there are several things you can do to help your extensions last as long as possible:

• Avoid getting your lashes wet for the first 24 to 48 hours after application.
• Use oil-free makeup removers and cleansers around the eye area.
• Gently brush your lashes daily with a clean spoolie to keep them neat.
• Avoid rubbing or pulling at your lashes, especially when sleeping.
• Sleep on your back or use a silk pillowcase to reduce friction.
• Stay away from waterproof mascara, as it requires oil-based removers.

Pro tip: Keeping your lashes clean is actually one of the best ways to extend their life. Buildup of oils and debris can weaken the adhesive bond over time.

When to Schedule Your Next Appointment

We recommend booking your fill appointment in advance, ideally every 2 to 3 weeks. This keeps your lashes looking consistently gorgeous and prevents you from reaching a point where a full set is needed again. If more than 50% of your extensions have shed, it may be more cost-effective to get a new full set rather than a fill.
